Lifting straps allow you to work beyond your grip strength or endurance limitations in movements where you're holding a bar, such as deadlifts and chin ups.  So you can use lifting straps to take grip out of the equation to a certain extent to work other parts of your body harder, or as an aide to keep progressing in lifts while you work grip separately to get it up to the desired level.

Lifting straps can be especially helpful for very high rep work, super heavy partials and actually reduces CNS fatigue in hang variants of O-lifts.

Lifting straps basically work by wrapping around your wrist and the bar to lock your hand to the bar transferring the load from your grip to the strap.  There are different types of lifting straps out there and like most things some are better than others.

The Do-Win lifting Strap has a loop that goes over your wrist and a strap that wraps around the bar, the latter being relatively short compared to many lifting straps on the market.  The strap that wraps around the bar is simply secured under the fingers and has an extremely grippy surface that locks onto the knurling of a bar like Velcro secure the bar in place.

The advantage of the Do-Win Lifting Strap is that it is easy to set up on your own, unlike lifting straps that rely on length to create reverse torsion that enable to the strap to grip the bar properly - these longer straps are very difficult to set up and because you need both hands free to set them up properly you can't do it on your own.
