Building A Gym For Her, By Her

With Bec Bennett, owner of HER Fitness Club in Richmond, Victoria
When Bec Bennett built HER, she wanted to build something different. A premium gym designed exclusively for women, by women.
“I wanted to create a space that supported women’s longevity in their strength, health and fitness. Somewhere that understood it all – how women should train, and how they want to train.”
Stemming from personal experience in the industry, Bec saw a gap for a women’s training space filled with premium equipment they actually wanted. That’s when she reached out to Iron Edge.

Group training, empowered
Working with our expert team to plan the gym layout and equipment selection, Bec separated the space into a group training area and an open gym.

“The first focus was the class space, and how to best utilise the area to ensure we could apply variety in the programming. We needed versatile equipment that wouldn’t take up too much space. The NEXA Racks fit the brief perfectly.”
“I really love the NEXA Racks. They allow for so many options during classes while keeping the area feeling open and spacious. Without the right equipment, our classes would have been impacted by flow and accessibility. We would be limited if the NEXAs didn’t have multiple cables or multiple ways to mount a barbell like they do.”
The optimal gym floor

“For the open gym area, I chose to limit the upper body machines. Generally speaking, many women can use dumbbells or other hand weights for a lot of upper body work. But we still wanted cables, and the chin up and dip assist machines. These have been so popular and beneficial for our members! The rest were easy choices from the Iron Edge range, as they had the fundamental pieces I knew I wanted – glute thrust, leg extension, leg curl, adductor and abductor machines.”

The result
The finished space has a signature aesthetic with chrome walls, cream brickwork and cream upholstery. The HER logo takes centre stage on the turf, dumbbells, bumper plates and grilles.
And as Bec’s website states, research shows that women thrive in training environments designed intentionally for them.

“I’m a little biased, but I have to say it is the most beautiful energy I have ever felt in a class setting. It doesn’t feel like there’s competitiveness, judgement or exclusion. It genuinely feels like a girls’ club. Having the correct equipment has had a massive impact on the progression of our classes, and personal progression for our members.”

What’s next for HER
Having opened her doors in June 2026, Bec has plans to grow and develop the HER offering to even better support women’s strength through all stages of life. Including the introduction of pre and post-natal programming.
“It’s incredibly important that we have equipment and programming diverse enough for women to continue training through every chapter. And teach them the importance of doing so. We’re really excited about this. We’re just starting or Bubs and HER classes, and have had so much positive feedback already.”
“I would love for HER to champion a culture of women supporting women within the fitness industry. Encouraging women to support, celebrate and empower one another, both inside and outside the gym. Ultimately, I want HER to redefine what it means for women to feel strong, confident and empowered through fitness.”
